Third Grade at Meadow View

Curriculum

MDVE is an Artful Learning school. We are in the 11th year of implementation, and we are very excited about this model of learning and performance assessment.  3rd grade units include Influence, Structure and Process. We follow the state of Colorado Standards for Science and Social Studies concepts.

Our literacy (reading, writing, phonics, grammar) curriculum is Benchmark Workshop.  Throughout this curriculum model we will be incorporating guided reading, independent literacy activities, shared and modeled reading, phonics instruction, writing and communication skills.  This year in Math we will be using the Ready Math series for our math curriculum.

Assessment is done on an ongoing basis, both informally and formally.  Types of assessment will include observation, anecdotal records, surveys, running records, check lists, phonics, fluency, decoding and writing assessments (Benchmark Workshop), weekly/biweekly math assessments (Ready Math), and district-wide assessments .  We will also be keeping a Body of Evidence (BOE) on each student to monitor proficiency in the Colorado state standards. Elementary Progress Reports will be completed in December and June. The iReady online assessment for ELA and Math is used in 3rd grade three times a year for growth monitoring. Third grade students will take state mandated standardized tests (CMAS) in the Spring. More information regarding testing will be sent out closer to the testing period.

Conferences  We will have a Fall and Spring Parent/Teacher Conference where assessments and your child’s progress will be shared.  If at any time you wish to discuss your child’s progress, I am be more than happy to set up a time to talk.  At the same time, if I have concerns (behavior or academic) I will contact you as the need arises.
