Daily 5

Have you heard about Dailies? In our classroom, we have all 5 "Dailies" a day. This is basically five 3 25 minute sessions of reading, each beginning with a mini-lesson focused on reading skills. During each session, I am working with small groups and/or individual students, while the other students are working on reading. This way, I can teach to individual goals and differentiate for your child's needs! Students choose from five Dailies to work on during that independent time.

Read to Self-Independent reading allows students to practice their skills and increase their fluency.

Read to Someone-Partner reading allows students to practice their skills, increase their fluency, and have meaningful discussions about texts.

Listen to Reading-Listening to reading allows students to hear books read fluently and it increases their own fluency and word recognition.

Word Work-Students work on phonics and phonemic awareness by working on word parts, word families, spelling patterns, and high frequency words to increase their knowledge and skill.

Work on Writing-Students work in their writer's notebooks or publish texts. Reading and writing go hand in hand!
