AP Music Theory

AP Music Theory is designed for students who wish to participate in advanced coursework pertaining to music theory with an emphasis on music of the Common Practice period (1600-1900). The material and information presented in class is equal to a first year music theory course at the university level. Students will explore elements of melody, harmony, texture, rhythm, composition, musical analysis, and form, as well as develop their aural skills through listening and performance.

You will be required to purchase a textbook and workbook for this class. Most class activities and many of our tests and quizzes will be from these books. They are: Music in Theory and Practice. 9th ed, Vol. 1. and the Workbook to accompany Music in Theory and Practice (These books can be purchased on Amazon.com.)

Before Friday August 28th, 2020 you must:

Read the attached syllabus.

Print and sign the sign-off sheet stating you have read the syllabus.

Purchase your textbook.

We will also have multiple quizzes and tests applied through the college board AP website. The link for this site is.
