*WHAT IS FCCLA?*

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) at Highlands Ranch High School is affiliated with the national organization FCCLA. FCCLA leadership and community service projects are an extension of the Family and Consumer Science Department.

MISSION

To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and consumer sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through: Character development,creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.

PURPOSES

    1. To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life.

    2. To strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society.

    3. To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community.

    4. To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony.

    5. To promote greater understanding between youth and adults.

    6. To provide opportunities for making decisions and assuming responsibilities.

    7. To prepare for the multiple roles of men and women in today's society.

    8. To promote Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations.

FUN FACTS

    • FCCLA Was Originally founded in 1945 as FHA (Future Homemakers of America)

    • It is only Career and Technical Students Organization (CTSO) that has a central focus on the family

    • FCCLA has 220,000 members nation-wide and 2,200 members in Colorado alone!

    • There are 53 State Associations including District of Columbia, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

FCCLA is an exciting organization at HRHS that combines community services, social activities leadership skills, and LOTS of fun! FCCLA is one of the largest career and technical student organizations in the U.S. Established in 1945, it encourages personal growth, leadership development, preparation for the future, and family and community involvement through family and consumer sciences education. In the National standings we have a growing number of 216, 934 members and 7,839 chapters! Colorado membership was 2,055 members in 100 chapters. Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, career explorations, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, environment, nutrition and fitness, and teen violence. Involvement offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life - planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making and interpersonal communication - necessary in the workplace, home, and global marketplace.
