Home-School Partnership

Homework Policy

Our goal as a team is to support a love of learning and help your child thrive as an individual. We encourage that to partner with us by having your child to read for at least 25 minutes every night. In addition, they should practice math facts and complete math homework if they need extra guidance with a particular strategy. There are many fun ways to get your child outside, playing, and learning. Ideas for this learning can be found on our websites.

Activities to Encourage Learning at Home

Tennis Ball Tryouts! - Take a tennis ball and write a variety of numbers on it. Students can play catch and add or multiply the two numbers their thumb and index finger land on.

Word Family Slam - Write a variety of word family words on different colored note cards (-op, -am, and -at word family words since those are the ones we've been talking about this week) Tape the words to the wall or ground with painters tape. Call out a word and have your child try and find it and SLAM it by hitting it with a big ball. Do this again and again with each word.

Home-School Contact

You will receive one form of communication from me every week. This will include an alternating combination of either a newsletter or a mini progress report that shows your child's current capabilities in subjects relevant to that week of school. If you are not receiving my emails, please contact me as soon as possible.

In addition to these interactions, I will be using Seesaw this year to communicate this year. This application allows me to let you know how your child is doing as well as allowing me to send you pictures of their work throughout the day. Students will build a portfolio on this system so they can share their work right to your phone each day. This will be used as a digital portfolio & positive reinforcement communication tool.

Classroom Expectations

Solid relationships and communication are key players in ensuring a successful year ahead. The partnership between families and teachers serves to strengthen this bond.

Personally, I find kindness and hard work to be the two traits that make for the most successful year possible. In an attempt to prepare students for the world that awaits them, I lovingly hold all students to high expectations.

My approach aligns with relationship based love and logic. This means that I “lovingly set limits without anger, lectures, or repeated warnings.” Most of all, it means that students will be asked to problem solve when issues arise. This will give students more independence and help them see the unique power they have to find solutions.
