Bear Canyon Mental Health Home Page

This site has been built with two main purposes in mind: to inform parents and/or teachers about what Mental Health is as well as to provide resources to help children grow into well-adjusted, happy individuals. Throughout this site, you will find research-based information that we have found throughout our years as mental health providers.

My name is Christopher Hughes and I'm the school psychologist at Bear Canyon Elementary School. I have been working in Douglas County School District since 2013 as a mental health provider and I thoroughly enjoy my work. A little bit about my professional background: I obtained my Doctoral and Educational Specialist Degrees in Child, Family and School Psychology at the University of Denver, I also obtained my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at St. Mary's College of Maryland. My passion is to work with young children (Birth - 12 years), but I am currently licensed to work with children from Birth to 21-years-old. I am also pursuing dual licensure to be not only a school-based practitioner but also a private Licensed Psychologist.

Outside of school, I am married to another Douglas County educator. We have a rescue dog named Sprocket. I am an avid outdoorsman. I enjoy skiing, hiking, camping, and kayaking. I am also a runner and enjoy playing ultimate frisbee. I am a very passionate and driven individual. I look forward to continuing my career here in Douglas County and hopefully getting to know as many kids, parents, and teachers as I can along the way. Thank you for visiting this site. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments at crhughes@dcsdk12.org. I can also be reached using my direct office line: 303-387-6497.

Kindest regards,

Christopher Hughes, Ph.D.
