WCO:

*Creates meaning strategically through Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening

*Evaluate how authors are strategic in creating meaning with more elements and more complex text

4C: Creativity

21st Century Skill: Resiliency

Station Work: Students have been working in both of their literacy blocks on station work to target specific reading and writing skills. As readers, students have worked on a number of story elements, including Character Development/Analysis, Author's Purpose, Identification of elements with different text examples, Conflict/Resolution evaluating, and finding meaningful text-evidence. Their hard work will be shared at Fall Conferences on October 5th & 6th which are student-led. We look forward to sharing our learning with you!

Novel Study: Students should be finishing up their very first assigned novel in 5th grade! They have done an incredible job of discussing story elements, using sticky-notes to track their thinking, and pulling text-evidence to show support of their learning. They have come so far in such a short time! They will now be working on creating an advertisement for their novel and choosing a specific audience to encourage more reading! Their ideas will be shared at conferences as well.

Looking Ahead:

*Body Systems Unit (Integrated subject areas include: Science, Writing, Reading (nonfiction), Research)

*Inquiry Projects (Student Passion Projects that will be worked on during our BOOST time each day)

*Genre Exploration (Reading and Writing about a new genre of choice)

***More information about these units will be shared after Fall Break :)***
