WCO: Evaluate why author's are strategic in creating meaning with more elements and more complex text.

21st Century Skill: Resiliency

*Genre's of Focus- Students will be selecting one genre to explore and become an expert on.

-Mystery- Stories about solving crimes or unraveling secrets.

-Adventure- Action packed stories set in exotic or forbidding locales.

-Fantasy/Mythology- Fiction blended with imaginative elements and symbolic stories explaining natural events or popular beliefs.

As we learn about what elements make up these specific genre's, we will also be identifying characteristics that make up story writing. Characters, setting, plot and moral/lesson will be identified and evaluated to help build the students knowledge on how different author's use these elements in their own writing. Students will be given their second opportunity to participate in a writing contest that will be introduced at this time as well.

Sticky-Note Expectations: ALL MUST USE TEXT-EVIDENCE! :)

Summary- end of each chapter

Character- Protagonist, Antagonist, supporting characters: outward appearance & personal traits

Setting- detailed explanation of settings and how they change

Plot- identification of problems, attempts at fixing problem and solution

Moral/Lesson- reflection of how the author teaches a lesson throughout a story (clues from the text)
