4C & 21st Century Skill: Communication & Resiliency

Curriculum Information:

Integrated Unit- We are continuing our work with the integrated science and literacy body systems unit. Students completed work regarding the Digestive System before break, and are currently focused on the Respiratory System. We plan to work on Circulatory as well. It has been fun to watch them dive into nonfiction articles and analyze these important systems within the human body. Moving forward, students will put their learning to the test and get the opportunity to explore what happens in the body when a system does not work correctly. This directly relates to our WCO and will help students to think about the relationships and impact that different systems have on one another. We are really enjoying seeing the learning that is happening!

Literacy- In the next few weeks we will begin another novel study with one of my favorite authors for young readers, Gary Paulsen! Students will look directly at his specific writing techniques with specific story elements and character development. We will also spend some time looking at Figruative Language and how authors use these skills to paint a picture in the minds of their readers. We will learn about similes, metaphors, alliteration, personification, onomatopoeias, and imagery. This is one of my favorite times of the year!

Looking Ahead:

*Heart and Lung Dissection on Friday, Jan. 6!

*Grandparent Biographies- We will begin writing the biographies shortly before Spring Break!!
