Amy Stivers, School Psychologist

I am one of the school psychologists for Highlands Ranch High School. I can help students that may be struggling in school due to an underlying emotional concern. My role is to offer resources, teach skills, and advocate for students' needs with teachers and families.

School Mental Health Services
School Psychologists and School Social workers in the Douglas County School District are school mental health providers. School mental health services are designed to focus on helping students manage and resolve social, emotional, academic and behavioral concerns that interfere with learning.

I provide individual and group counseling services to students that are struggling in order to help them reach their highest potential by teaching them effective coping skills they might be lacking. Because school mental health services are meant to be brief and focused, if a student needs more intensive, long-term therapy, I can provide resources to students and families to access outside professionals. I can also provide crisis intervention for issues that are more immediate such as suicide ideation and threat assessment.

My Background
I have been working as a school psychologist since 1999 in urban, rural, and suburban settings. My experience has been with middle-school and high-school aged students for my entire career. I have been the school psychologist for Highlands Ranch High School since 2006.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, in Psychology in 1996 from Syracuse University. I then received a Master of Arts in School Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1999. Lastly, I earned an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Colorado at Denver in 2015 in Administrative Leadership and Policy Studies, along with a Principal License.
