Course Description: This elective course at Spaulding Middle School will provide opportunities to examine, explore, and manipulate several different mediums in art. This will be accomplished through the process of art production, the study of art history, the practice of art criticism, and the exploration of aesthetics in art.
Course Objective: The student will begin to understand and apply the artistic process to analyze, interpret, and evaluate art works. The student will begin to understand and use the artistic processes to create original works of art.

Demonstrate an understanding of the element of art.
Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of design.
Understand technical skills, such as selecting and using tools and techniques of the medium.
Understand the connections between visual arts and other disciplines outside the arts, such as mathematics, science or history.
Be able to analyze and interpret visual art through its historical, cultural or social context.
Class Expectations:
It is essential that students participate in classroom discussions and critiques. It is also vital that students are in the classroom and prepared to work when the bell rings. Classroom participation points will be awarded daily to students who are:
1. In their seat and ready to work when the bell rings.
2. Make quality use of their time in this class.
3. Participate in classroom discussions and activities.
4. Respectful towards others and school property.
Required Materials:
The necessary art materials in class will be provided in class. Students will occasionally be required to bring items or personal belongings from home to can be used for art projects. Failure to bring in items will make it difficult or impossible to complete the projects and will result in a lower grade.
