In first grade, we believe that homework is a way to independently practice the skills and strategies that your child has learned. However, we also strongly believe that homework should not be torture. Your child works harder than ever in school all day long. We move at a very fast pace. All first-grade students will be given a monthly reading log to complete and return to school. They are required to read "just right" books for at least 20 minutes every night & record these books in their reading log. Parents will need to sign the log each night as well. Reading logs will be returned to school on the last school day of each month. They may read books from home, library books or they can find a large selection "just right" books on the Raz Kids web site. (You can quickly find the Raz Kids Link on our Favorite Web Sites page.) Studies show that reading is the best way to become a proficient reader.
