Born on September 5th, 1912, John Cage was one of most influential and experimental musical composers of the 20th Century.

A firm believer in the power of sound in of itself, his use of instrumentation spanned using feathers, sand, and other random objects to create a soundscape unlike anything else conceived.

In his most famous composition, "4'33"", he had his orchestra not play their instruments for a whole four minutes and 33 seconds. The "musical" element of the piece came from the ambient sound of the performers and audience being themselves while in an auditorium.

At the time of his passing in 1999, his legacy of pushing the musical boundary was well stamped. He is often credited with inspiring numerous ambient musicians.
