Homework & Event Calendar

Homework Policy

The Purpose of Homework: I give homework to students so they will have extra

practice with what we are doing in class. This could be completing a project,

or paper, or practicing new examples of a previously learned skill.

Amount of Homework: Individual days will be different, but in general students

should have somewhere around 50 minutes every night. Twenty minutes should be

spent reading and then there should be around 20 minutes of other skills to

practice.

Mrs. Thompson's Homework Responsibilities: I will never give homework on a topic

that we have not studied in class. I will write the homework on the board at

the end of the day and give students time to write down the assignments and

ask questions.

Student Homework Responsibilities: Students must write their assignments in

their planners every day and make sure they have asked any questions and have

all necessary supplies to complete the assignment before they leave for the

day. Students must complete every assignment fully and to the best of their

ability. If students have difficulty they should first see what they can

figure out from their resources (directions on a worksheet, dictionary, website, book,

etc.). If students are still unsure what to do they can ask for help from a

family member or friend. If this is not enough, they should ask me BEFORE they

hand in the assignment in the morning.

Parent Homework Responsibilities: Parents can help students by setting the

stage for successful homework completion by making homework a routine and

helping the student to find a quiet location to complete homework. Parents can

also help by looking at the assignment notebook daily and letting me know if there was any

trouble with the homework. If, for example, a student is spending too much

time on a specific assignment, feel free to stop them and write me a note

about what is going on. I do not want students missing out on a good night's

sleep because they need help with a particular topic!

Incomplete or Missing Homework: If homework is not turned in at the

appropriate time, students will be required to complete it at home the next night.

Students are required to turn in the

missing assignment the next day.  If homework is missing or incomplete due to a

family situation, the need for more help, or a missed class I will work with the student to make

individual plans for work completion.

Absences:  If your child is absent due to an illness, they may have as many

days to make up the homework as the days they were absent.  Whatever is

not completed should be brought to school, as they may have time in class

to make up this missed homework.
