Dear Student and Parents:
A student's academic success has priority in District 64. Athletic activities enhance the educational experience. However, athletic programs should not interfere with the student's academic work or inhibit his/her ability to achieve success in the classroom.
Academic Policy
Teachers will check performance at pre-determined three-week intervals during the season. Students, who have two (2) grades below a "C" in all subject areas, may be subject to academic suspension, which includes both practices and games. Within a week of notification (5 school days) students must demonstrate effort in improving his/her grades. The administration will review academic progress towards a determination and alert parents if there is an academic concern that requires action.
Progress my be defined as demonstrated evidence of:
1. Getting missing work completed and turned in.
2. Making sure all long-term projects, that are late, are completed and turned in.
3. Making efforts, before, during lunch or after school to meet with teachers to improved concerned grades.
At the end of the five-day period, the student must provide school administration a signed note, from the teacher(s) in the class(es) they are struggling in, noting progress in the stated areas. If the student cannot produce this evidence of progress, they will be suspended from practices and games for a period of time covering five school days (weekend games within this period of time are also subject to athletic suspension). If the student has not made an effort to improved by the stated criteria above, the coach, in conjunction with the school administration, reserves the right to suspend the student/athlete from the team for the remainder of the season.
Behavior Policy
Since the student-athlete is representing a District 64 Middle School at all times, he/she must act in a manner that will reflect favorably upon the school and the athlete personally.
Disciplinary Action- Any student who has a school related behavioral problem is subject to school and team discipline. A warning will be issued for the first incident, a one-game suspension for the second incident, and the student will be removed from the team for the third.
School policy will govern in all cases and be enforced by the school administration and faculty.
