CLASS EXPECTATIONS
PE Shirt/PE Shorts/Sweats/Socks/Gym Shoes/Heart Rate Monitors (Freshmen)
All students are expected to wear their PE uniform everyday unless otherwise specified by the teacher. If a student wears sweats because of the weather, the sweats they wear in class are only to be worn in PE class. The heart rate monitors are expected to be worn by the freshmen during the course of the year. Part of their grade will be determined by the data collected from the heart rate monitor throughout the school year.
Information for each of our units, review guides and videos can all be found on my moodle site. All students will receive an enrollment key for my moodle site on the second day of school. If you joined the class late, please see me for the enrollment key.
Class syllabus
“We are all better than we know and if only we can be shown this we may never settle for anything less”
Kurt Hahn
Everyone has undiscovered potential and that it is our job to try to release it in a positive way; rather than concentrate on things to “fix” we concentrate on the positive aspects. During the class we will identify an individual’s strengths and build on these in such a way as to make them significant in that person’s life, the negative aspects will then become insignificant. The result is a more positive and optimistic view of oneself and the world around them with the obvious increase in self esteem and self confidence.
This class involves a heavy concentration of teamwork, trust and communication activities. The culminating activity is our rock climbing unit in our adventure gym. All the skills that have been worked on, including group dynamics, teamwork, communication, and trust are essential in this unit. Archery, fitness testing, kayaking, and a variety of fitness activities are also a focus in the semester. The following are examples of our activities: name game, turn style, island hopping, black hole, spider web, giant puzzle, mine field, octopus draw, acid river, and trust falls.
Physical Education will help students gain the knowledge what will allow them to lead healthy, active, and fulfilling lives. Our department is guided by the following three principles: all of our students will realize the ideal of developing "a sound mind in a sound body," that fitness is for all, and because one cannot store it, fitness for a lifetime.
Freshman will participate in a prescribed program of activity units determined by the Physical Welfare Department. Each student will receive instruction in a wide variety of fitness activities, team sports, and individual sports. Fitness is emphasized throughout the freshman curriculum with a focus on leading healthy lifestyles. Freshman are not allowed to take theses courses out of sequence or replace these courses with a junior senior elective.
