Policies & Procedures

1. REQUIRED MATERIALS: 3-Ring Binder with 4 tabs: notes, homework, handouts, assessments

Pencils - #2 and a few colored ones

Lined paper

Graph paper

Graphing Calculator

Chrome Book

2. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Treat everyone with respect, and please be in your seat when the bell rings, with your notes open, ready to begin class. Using the bathroom facilities between classes is ideal, but if need arises to leave the classroom, please choose an appropriate pause in the activities. Finally, remember that cheaters never prosper; be honest with yourself and you’ll get ahead much more quickly.

3. HOMEWORK: Homework is assigned nightly. The problems are intended to reinforce concepts learned in class. You are expected to check your answers to each homework problem as you do them. If the answers do not match, work backwards to find your mistake. If you still cannot find your mistake, please seek help immediately in the Literacy Center. Historically, students who complete all assignments as recommended have practically secured their success in the course. Homework will not be collected or graded.

4. GRADING: The grading scale is: 100 – 90% A, 89.9 – 80% B, 79.9 – 70% C, 69.9 – 60% D, below 60% F. Each semester final exam weighs 20% of the final grade.

Assessment Revisions: For students who complete homework assignments nightly, every assessment that earned a D or an F may qualify to be corrected for a revised score of a 70%. For assessments that earned an A, B or C, ONE assessment PER SEMESTER may be rescored when an original, alternative demonstration of knowledge is presented by the student. To qualify:

1) All homework assignments must be submitted immediately after receiving the scored assessment.

2) Within the following two school days, corrections must be done with a tutor in the Literacy Center as well as checked by the math teacher on duty during that period. (Please obtain a signature from that teacher to verify your work.)

3) Corrections must be submitted on a separate sheet of paper, stapled to the front of the original assessment. Corrections will only be accepted within two school days after the assessment has been returned.

Incomplete Assessments: If a significant portion of the assignments have not been completed, a grade of “incomplete” will be assigned due to insufficient information to assign a valid grade. When the missing assignments are submitted, the grade of “incomplete” will convert to a letter grade, which may or may not be a passing grade. Please be advised that credit for the course may not be earned until the assignments have been submitted.

5. EXTRA HELP: It is much easier to keep up than to catch up. Be sure to ask questions in class as they occur to you. If you are stumped, see a tutor in the Literacy Center (Room 1161). If you still need more help, you may request an appointment with me during office hours.

6. ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UP PROCEDURES: If you know that you are going to be absent (vacation, doctor’s appointment, field trip, etc.), you may arrange your make-up work with me, ideally up to two days in advance. If you are sick the day before a test (only), you will be expected to take the test with the rest of the class on the scheduled day. If you are sick on the day of a test, you will be expected to make up the test the same day that you return. If you are absent more than this, please see me to make special arrangements for making up missed work immediately upon your return.

7. ELECTRONICS AND SECURITY: Please do not leave your electronics unattended. All calculators can be engraved with your school ID number in the Security Office, so that it may be returned to you if found. You will not be permitted to use a cell phone calculator, chrome book or another student’s device during an assessment.
