Seal of Biliteracy
The Illinois Seal of Biliteracy was created to recognize students who have a high level of proficiency in another language and English. Students who attain the Seal of Biliteracy will have it noted on their transcript and diploma. This designation is offered to Seniors. Illinois Public Universities are required to give credit to students who achieve the Seal of Biliteracy.
Niles West Tri-Lingual Scholar Award
The Tri-Lingual Scholar distinction recognizes those students who have been enrolled in four years of one world language and a minimum of two years of a second world language. This distinction recognizes a student's commitment to learn about other languages and cultures and serves to encourage tri-lingualism within our school.

Scholarships
Lead with Languages Teacher Scholarship Program
This award provides merit-based scholarships to graduating high school seniors committed to pursuing the language teaching profession in languages other than English.
Carthage College Modern Language Scholarship
Covers 75% of tuition. Three years minimum of French in high school is required and intent to major or minor in French. Application available October 2019.
North Central College (Naperville) First Generation Teacher Scholarship
Must be a first generation college student. No affiliation to French major necessary.
AATF (American Association for Teachers of French) Walter Jensen Student Scholarship
Student applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application and enrolled in an established teacher education program (B.A., B.S., or M.A.T.) in French. Applications for independent study abroad trips, subsidized travel, or summer programs will not be considered. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and a non-native speaker of French. He or she must be sponsored by an AATF member teacher. The next application deadline is March 15, 2020. Applications will be accepted beginning January 1.
