1. Attendance, Absences, and Timeliness:
Daily attendance is a reasonable expectation of class.
2. Materials:
All materials need to be in class every day. Be prepared.
· Something to write with: whatever you have, whatever you like, whatever you find, please bring it to class; shockingly, you will need something to write with in school.
· Something to write on: I hope that means you will bring paper in some fashion or form.
· A folder of some sort for keeping notes, papers, returned work, etc.
· your current text for the class
3. Make-Up Procedures:
Check your student handbook for the district’s statement regarding test/project make-up policies.
4. Tests/Quizzes:
5. Homework:
Out-of-class reading and writing assignments will be given throughout the course. Keep all in-class notes, handouts, and returned assignments in your folder. Please note the following procedures for turning in work:
a. Following are non-negotiable requirements for writing assignments: typed, 12 point Garamond font, double-spaced, and .75" margins.
b. Homework is due at the beginning of class as you walk into the room. If work is to be shared via Google docs, it is also due with a hard copy. Please pay attention to the details governing the assignment. Your name, date, class period, and my last name should appear in the upper right-hand corner. Should your paper require stapling, please staple in the left-hand corner. Please make every possible effort to find a stapler in this vast and stapler-filled cosmos: I do not accept papers that are not stapled. Work must be turned in the day it is due. Due dates will always be discussed in advance. If you do not turn in an assignment on the assigned date, 10% will be deducted for each day the assignment is late. Conversely, if for whatever reason- a reason you do not need to explain to me- you will be turning work in at a reasonable later time, i.e. later that same due date or the following day: (offer not valid on Fridays or days before non attendance school days)- you will need to present your solution to me for when your work will be submitted. DO NOT come to me with a problem you do not know how to solve regarding your work being turned in: find a solution and present it to me.
c. My email address is paubel@d219.org. Printer broke? In addition to the many you may find in the school building that you may use at no cost to you, you may also email your work as an attachment or submit it via Google docs: both of those solutions require hard copies on the next calendar day of class. Computer crashed? We’ve got 400 of them here, perhaps a few more. Internet down? You can put a file on a USB drive. In a nutshell, none of the above or missing excuses for not having your work is acceptable. Got a problem? Find a solution.
d. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated. Please refer to the Academic Dishonesty section of the Student Handbook for official school policies. You are responsible for turning in original work. You receive ZERO (0) points on any and all work that is plagiarized, copied from another student, or recycled from an older sibling or acquaintan
I reserve the right to alter or amend any of the above policies; additionally, I also further reserve the right to apply or excuse any of the above policies.

8. Conferences and Expectations:
Get in the habit of asking questions. If you need assistance, talk to me! I can only be of service to you if you are willing to discuss your needs. If you would like to discuss your grades, readings, writings, please make an appointment with me before or after school. Call me (847) 626-2624, email me paubel@d219.org, or come the English office during my office hours so we can schedule an appointment. Dropping by to see if I have a moment to talk rarely works out. Please note that the offer to talk to me does not refer to the five minute passing period before class begins or after class ends. That is not the place or time to have an extended conversation about your academic/scholastic situation. Also, note that this classroom we meet in for class is not my office. If it is not our class period, please do not seek me there.
