Schoology

In District 102, Schoology is...

...an electronic assignment notebook. Teachers can post class updates containing the day's or week's work, which your child can refer to at any time. The teacher can also create dated entries which will appear in the class calendar and automatically populated each student's individual calendar.

...a classroom hand-out/hand-in folder. Teachers can organize course materials of all media types in one spot. No more "I lost the handout". Now, students can just go on line to download a new copy. And the "dropbox" feature allows students to hand in electronic documents, completing a paperless workflow, when appropriate.

...an assessment tool. Formative assessment is what we call those short quizzes teachers use to check for understanding along the way.

...an online collaboration space. Teachers can create discussions simply by posting a question and opening it up to responses. They can also enable commenting on any other type of resource. For example, a teacher can embed a video and ask students to reflect on it. The groups feature allows extracurricular groups, like Student Council and Yearbook, to have online homes.

...a school daily newspaper. The school office posts daily announcements and other "news" updates of interest to students.

What you will find in Schoology:

  • A summary of the class updates posted by your child's teachers

  • A calendar of key dates (project due dates and test dates) for your child's classes

  • School updates (daily announcements intended for students)

  • Information about your child's teachers and other staff members

What you won't find in Schoology:

  • Your child's grades. While Schoology has a built-in grading feature for on-line assessments given within that system, your child's class grades are maintained in PowerSchool and are viewable in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Talk to your child about how each of his or her teachers incorporates Schoology into their class.

Parent Access to Schoology

Students and parents can access Schoology using an app on iOS, Android and even Amazon Kindle.

Early each year, Meridian and Aptakisic will send home instructions for creating a parent account in Schoology. They will also provide a student code, which allows the parent to associate their account with their student. If there is more than one student from a family in grades 5-8, a separate code will be provided for each child.
