CVMS Drama Department Participation Form
Before Tryouts:
To participate in musical (cast and crew), you’ll need to complete the tryout form and return it to Mrs. Zelch in room 208 by Friday, October 21st. Students wishing to ONLY join crew do NOT need to come to auditions. Auditions will be held after school on Tuesday, October 25th, and callbacks on Wednesday, October 26th. You cannot audition without a permission form. All tryout materials are present on the CVMS musical webpage. The page can be accessed on the middle school webpage under the activities section. Watch for announcements on the middle school musical page for announcements and other communications.
Trying out for the musical does not guarantee a part in the cast. Casting with be based on tryout scores as well as current grades in classes. Students who have a failing grade are not eligible to participate in the musical. The stage crew list will be based on prior experience with our musical AND the order in which the forms are turned in. Due to the large numbers of students that want to be on stage crew, most years we take around half of the kids that turn in a form for stage crew. Just because you did not make it one year does not mean you cannot make it another year. This stage crew list will be posted along with the cast list.
Practices:
Review the schedule of rehearsal dates and list any conflicts on the tryout form. Crews will usually meet closer to the actual production dates when construction begins. This is usually one month before the production. You will not be considered for a lead if you have any conflicts that occur during the last two weeks of rehearsals. Any conflicts that occur during tech weeks may result in understudies being cast as the role. Students who miss a rehearsal when a dance is being taught will not be included in that scene. With the limited number of rehearsals this year, we cannot make up lost time.

Practices (cont’d):
· For Saturday rehearsals, we will begin promptly at 8AM. Students can be dropped off at the auditorium entrance at the side of the MS building. Rehearsals will run from 8AM to Noon. Parents should be at the school a few minutes before noon so that pick up runs smoothly. Parents may want to consider car-pooling this year with all of the Saturday rehearsals.
· For weekday after-school rehearsals, students can either be picked up at the designated time or take the Activity Bus home. Any student who is not picked up on time will go home on the Activity Bus without exception. If parents are running late, please be prepared to meet your child at home. All rehearsals are “closed rehearsals” meaning that we ask you to please wait outside the building for your child.
Reasons for dismissal from the musical:
· Please do not schedule dentist, orthodontist, or other flexible appointments on rehearsal days. Your presence is a MUST for an excellent show. Three unexcused absences from rehearsal will result in dismissal from the production. This includes absences due to medical appointments. If rehearsal is on a school day and you are absent from school for the ENTIRE day, it will be considered an excused absence.
· If a student has a 69% or lower in any academic class, they will be given two weeks to raise the grade. After two weeks, they will no longer be permitted to take part in the musical.
· Any misbehavior that is disruptive or goes against the code of conduct will result in removal from the production. While at practice, we ask that you do homework, study lines or bring something to do when not on stage. Your respect for the actors on stage is extremely important. If you distract the actors on stage, you will be given warnings. After two warnings, you will be on “probation”. If given a third warning, you will be dismissed from the production. This will be closely monitored throughout rehearsals. Bullying or making fun of any other students is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate dismissal from the production without a warning. This includes comments outside of practice hours, via texts or social media.
Fundraising:
Once auditions have taken place, we will ask all individuals who are taking part in the musical to sell at least 3 boxes of candy. We need parent permission and your commitment before we can allow you to participate in the musical. Your signatures will also be a promise that you will be responsible for the amount of money due for the sale of 3 boxes of candy. We cannot accept the candy that has not been sold as payment. If you would prefer, you can take part in a “buyout”. You can pay for the profit your child would raise selling chocolates ($70). As soon as cast list is posted, you can begin selling your candy. When you get your first box of candy or bring in your buy out to Mrs. Zelch, you are confirming that you are going to be in the musical.
