Hello! I'm so excited to be here and for you to get to know me a little better. My name is Candice Tigerman and I have had the pleasure to be a teacher for 13 years - 9 of which I have spent at CVHS. I am absolutely passionate about my job - helping students learn, advocating for their success, and fighting for social justice.
I grew up in Fair Oaks, in the suburbs of Sacramento, and lived there through most of high school. Then I attended UC Santa Cruz (go Banana Slugs!) where I majored in Language Studies, studying Spanish, Portuguese, and linguistics, and minored in Education. For a year in high school and a year in college, I had the wonderful opportunity to study in Spain. Through these two years, I was able to develop a solid base of Spanish and understanding of the history of the language.
After college I worked for several years as an educational researcher in at the New Teacher Center in Santa Cruz, where I assisted in research studies around teacher retention and the impact that teachers of color have in the classroom. From this experience I decided to become a teacher, and I was fortunate to attend the Stanford Teacher Education Program to get my credential and Masters in Education. Throughout all of this, I had an amazing partner, Morgan, by my side and we traveled to different countries any time we had the chance.
I taught for four years at Willow Glen High School in San José, which I enjoyed immensely. However after moving to Oakland, the commute was unsustainable, which is when I had the opportunity to being teaching at CVHS. I have taught Spanish 1, 2, 3, and AP Spanish Language and Culture. It's amazing to see the growth that students can make! I feel fortunate to be a part of the CVHS community and Trojan togetherness.
I still live in Oakland with my husband, two sons, one dog, and two cats. When I'm not focused on school, I like to read, hike, go camping, travel, do yoga, and Scottish Highland dance.
