A Bit About Me:
This is my 21st year at Castro Valley High School. I've been here for so long that a number of my former students are now my colleagues. I keep waiting for the day when I will teach the child of one of my former students, but, as far as I know, I'm not there yet. Obviously I generally like the place and am committed to it for the long haul.
I have been teaching Modern World History for 19 years and Afrocentric U.S. History since it was created 13 years ago. I have previously taught APUSH, CCG (now Ethnic Studies), and United States History.
Grading Information:
In accordance with district policy on restorative practices, any summative assessment (tests, generally) may be retaken for full credit one time; that retake must be completed within two weeks of the assessment being graded or returned to the students. Any late work will be accepted for full credit until the day of the unit assessment. After the unit assessment late work is no longer accepted. Details are provided on the syllabus.
In accordance with district policy on equitable, standards based grading practices, grades will be calculated on a 0-4 scale. Details of the grade breakdown/conversion to the more familiar A-F scale are provided on the syllabus. Standardized rubrics for all assessments can be found in the folder linked under the name of your (or your student's) course above.
Grades are generally updated in Aeries within a week of any due date or test being completed; some long assignments (such as major typed essays) may take longer to grade, though I do try to have them scored and returned within a week of the due date whenever possible.
