As a class, we have developed classroom norms. Our norms have three main categories. We have agreed to follow Room 9 ABCs.
Rooms 9 ABCs:
Act Responsibly
Behave Respectfully
Care for All
Room 9 Pledge
(recited every morning)
I pledge today to do my best,
In reading, math, & all the rest.
I promise to follow the rules
In my class and in our school.
I’ll respect myself & others too.
I’ll expect the best in all I do.
I am here to learn all I can.
To try my best and be all I am.
Caring School Community
Sedgwick Elementary is a Caring School Community. CSC is a program which encourages children to develop good values and work within a caring community of learners. CSC is a research based program that promotes the building of classroom and school-wide community. Much of our school literature is based on this and children learn to work cooperatively. Conflict resolution (problem solving) is taught to children as early as kindergarten and is carried on throughout the grades. CSC teaches about the desire to make good choices in order to be the best person you can be. Sedgwick School fosters intrinsic motivation in our students by supporting and encouraging a positive, non-competitive learning environment. Students want to do their best because it makes them feel good to produce quality work and be good role models, not because they expect to receive tangible rewards or public recognition.
