Absences/Tardies/Illnesses

Your child's absence must be called in each day they are absent from school, for any reason, unless you have already notified the school office. Please note, while I appreciate an email in advance of an absence, you are still required to inform the office. If your child attends CDC (or any other after school program), please make sure to inform them separately about any absences as well.

Absence line for students is 408-732-3363 ext 6 or ext7

Absences and Tardies: Regular attendance is a critical aspect in the success a student achieves. Learning to be on time is an important personal habit to develop. School begins promptly at 8:30am; your child needs to be on time. Excessive absences and/or tardiness disrupt the learning process for your child. Regular and prompt attendance is necessary in order for a student to progress satisfactorily with his/her class.

Children arriving after the beginning of their regularly scheduled school day must report to the office for an admission slip. Please be aware that extended absences or tardies may cause your child to miss introduction or practice of important concepts. Family trips should be planned during scheduled breaks.

*If my classroom door is closed, your child is late and must report to the office for a late slip.

If your child has a doctor or dentist appointment and you need to pick your child up during the school day, please send a note with your child or email me before school to let me know. You will still need to check your child out at the office before they can leave the classroom. Please keep in mind, it is important that your child miss as little school as possible.

Illness: Please keep your child home at first sign of illness. Do not send your child to school if s/he has a temperature above normal or has thrown up within the last 24 hours. Please make sure your child is clear of all symptoms for 24 hours without the aid of medicine before returning to school. Remember your child shares a space with 24 other people so whatever s/he has will be passed on. If your child gets strep throat, chicken pox, or an infection like pink eye or lice please inform the office immediately so they can send out exposure notices.

*If your child will be out for any reason other than illness (i.e. vacation, bereavement, court, passport or visa application) please report the dates and reason to the office.
