All school rules are in effect and will be enforced during Speech practices and events. Students not meeting behavior expectations will be disciplined according to the school handbook and based on the severity of the infraction.
According to school policy, Speech Team Members will be entered into the district’s pool for drug testing.
Be sure to sign up for time slots to practice with a coach!
Be on time and prepared to work; have all proper materials.
Be respectful towards your coaches and your peers
Use constructive feedback when working with peers. Negativity and “drama” are not acceptable, especially when working with partners.
Required team meetings and minimum practice requirements may be in effect -- these requirements must be met to be registered for competition.
Business Attire is expected.
Suits/Ties/Dress Shirts/Pants/Skirts etc....

You must be passing at least 5 academic classes in order to compete.
If you need help getting back on track, we are willing to help you get the help you need.
All students must meet the number of practice requirements. These will be used in part to determine who will compete in meets where registration is limited.
Be early to ALL events
Have your critique sheets prepared completely before you enter the event room.
Address all coaches/judges as Sir or Ma’am
Be courteous to others if you break into finals. Celebration is great, but do not celebrate excessively. Act like you’ve been there before. Confidence is key!
Support your teammates by watching their performances when you are not in a round.
Use “off-time” as an experience to watch and learn from others in your event.
Regional/Post Season Tournaments
For events with multiple competitors, the competitor with the highest ranking, reliability, and work ethic at the end of the season will be selected compete in the IHSA Regional or other meets where entries are limited. Only one person or team from each event can be entered for Regionals.
The school covers the cost of the tournament entry fees which are are approximately $100 per team depending on where we go and how many students are entered.
Bring some money for lunches or bring a lunch. Food is usually around $5-$10. If you want to bring your own lunch or snacks feel free.
If you withdraw from a competition past the deadline, you will be fined $20 -- this is to recoup lost Team funds for higher registration costs to take more team members
The team will participate in three fundraising events each year.
These events are used to pay for for entry fees, materials, and other team expenses.
Two of the fundraisers are noted on the team calendar as we traditionally sell concessions items at the fall and spring school theatre productions (if they are held with live audiences).
Depending on school and health/safety guidelines, we may have a Helping Hands fundraiser where team members should volunteer their time (if deemed safe in the Covid situation).
For members wanting to attend a summer speech camp, additional optional fundraisers may be scheduled during the summer months.
