The classroom is at 30 clock hours mandated by the Illinois Secretary of State office that stresses attitudes for safe driving. Students taking both phases of the program should plan to finish both parts within one year after enrolling in the classroom phase. The classroom phase of Driver Education is designed to help novice drivers develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to become safe, low-risk, responsible drivers. Students will learn how to manage distractions and risks, understanding the highway transportation system (HTS), understanding basic vehicle operations, maintenance and operating costs. Students have the opportunity to obtain an instructional drivers permit. Students must pass the State of Illinois Rules of the Road test before obtaining a permit. The BTW phase of Driver Education, each student is scheduled for a minimum of six hours of actual driving experience and an additional six hours of observation time. Instruction will be in a dual control car with a qualified instructor. Illinois State law and a written school policy dertermine attendance requirements.
