We would like to ensure that VITA helps as many families as possible this year; please review the qualifications below to see if V.I.T.A. is right for you.
To be eligible for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.):
- Family income must be below $50,000 a year
- Both spouses must be present to file Married
If you qualify, you MUST bring to your V.I.T.A appointment:
- Social Security (SS) cards or ITINs for each member of the family (Need a new SS card?)
- a valid California ID or Driver’s License (other State's Driver's Licenses are acceptable)
- All W-2 forms for each member in the family (Check stubs are not allowed)
- All 1099 and 1098 forms for each member in the family
- Tax Identification Number of the child care and/or the dependent care provider for the Child & Dependent Care Credit
- Name, address, and phone number of landlords to claim the California Renters’ Credit
- Bank account and routing number to use for direct deposit of refunds
- County property tax statements to claim property tax deduction (found on Form 1098 for mortgages with escrow account)
- New: Documentation of dollar amount of Economic Stimulus Payment received in 2008
Lastly, please be advised that we can NOT supply any service for INCOME(S) from:
- Sale or rental of a home
- Self-employment income with expenses greater than $5,000
- Capital Gains/Losses
