REQUEST FOR LANGUAGE CONSULTATION PROPOSALS
Introduction: Community School of Excellence (CSE) invites proposals from a qualified linguist to consult with our Hmong Language teaching team to enhance language development instruction, support curriculum creation, and train staff on the implementation of created curriculum. The selected consultant will play a critical role in building a comprehensive and culturally responsive Hmong language program.
Background: CSE is a public charter school serving a diverse student population, including a large number of Hmong heritage learners. Our Hmong Language team is dedicated to preserving, revitalizing, and teaching the Hmong language through culturally sustaining pedagogy. We are seeking expert linguistic support to ensure the instructional practices and curriculum are research-based, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with best practices in language education.
Scope of Work: The consultant will:
Language Development Training:
Provide targeted professional development for CSE teachers on Hmong language acquisition, structure, and pedagogy.
Curriculum Design Leadership:
Lead and guide the Hmong Language team in the design and development of standards-aligned, vertically articulated curriculum materials.
Instructional Coaching:
Model instructional practices and mentor Hmong Language teachers on best practices for language teaching and assessment.
Resource Review:
Review and recommend culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate instructional materials.
Collaborative Planning:
Facilitate collaborative planning sessions to ensure alignment across grade levels and integration of curriculum into daily instruction.
Deliverables:
Professional development sessions
Scope and sequence framework for Hmong Language curriculum
Weekly or bi-weekly coaching sessions with staff (virtual or in person)
Written feedback and implementation support documentation
Professional Qualifications and Requirements: The ideal candidate will have:
Advanced degree in Linguistics, Language Development, Applied Linguistics, or related field
Expertise in Hmong language structure, dialects, and orthography
Experience in curriculum development and language instruction
Experience working with heritage language learners and culturally diverse schools
Strong facilitation and coaching skills
Availability to travel to CSE (if in-person work is required)
