 Welcome to CSE
CSE would like to welcome our new ELL Coordinator, Ms. Mary Beth Groff.

ELL stands for English Language Learner, and this job is very important at CSE because many of our students learn English in class.

To introduce herself, Ms. Groff wrote the following:

"I am happy to be at CSE as the new ELL Coordinator. I’ve been teaching for 16 years, the last nine as an English teacher. I’m excited to begin working with staff and families at CSE to continue to develop the English Language Program.

"We want to help students improve their English skills while they learn math, reading, science, social studies, etc.

"I live in southwest Minneapolis with my family, where I enjoy reading, gardening, cooking, and getting some exercise. I look
forward to meeting everyone!"

Welcome Aboard, Ms. Groff!

Staff of The Month

Stu Keroff continues to extend his positive impact on his school, the Hmong community, the open source tech community, and now the world. His computer club, the Asian Penguins led a session at HNDC about who their club is, what they do, and how they do it. Of course, we at CSE already know that Keroff's group of middle schoolers are learning tech and doing so with the motivation to help CSE families in need. Now the attendees of their HNDC session know this. And a growing number of tech fans and writers are becoming aware of CSE's Asian Penguins as well.

True to CSE's IB World School's status, Keroff's latest is the five laptops the Asian Penguins have refurbished and are sending to Thailand to gift to CSE's sister school, Huay Khue. In the spirit of service, global awareness, and expanding minds, I nominate Stu Keroff for May's IB Staff of the Month.

Staff of The Month

Congrats and thank you Sunny Pleh for bringing out the "Sunny" side of our students at CSE.

"Sunny goes above and beyond for our students.  Not only is he a teacher, but he plays the role of interpreter, counselor, parent liaison, driver, and mentor to our Karenni students and families.  He often comes to school early and stays late to make sure our students get the extra tutoring they need.  His role is so critical in building trust and a cultural bridge to our Karenni families.  He volunteers to pick students up from their homes and drops them off for special events.  All of our Karenni families know that when he calls them, it is important and they show up.  He is at every PTO meeting translating and helping our Karenni families understand their roles as parents.  He is truly a genuine and caring person in his actions, mannerisms, and words.  For all these reasons and more I think he is deserving of our IB staff of the month."
