Civic Engagement in Our Democracy - 2023-2024

NOTE: THIS WEBSITE IS CURRENTLY BEING UPDATED FROM ITS PREVIOUS FORM.  PLEASE EXCUSE ITS APPEARANCE WHILE IT IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. THANK YOU!

Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies! This year, you will be learning how your government works, learning how to be informed and engaged citizens, and learning how you can be changemakers. We will be grappling with complicated and controversial topics, with racism, with politics, with how we can make our country–and our world–a better place. These are, in my opinion, the most important things you can learn in a Social Studies class, and I am so excited to be diving into this great material with you this year!

Throughout this curriculum, we will be guided by one essential question:

How do I become an authentic, informed, and skilled civic participant, and why does it matter?
