Please be aware of the hot weather in the summer, early fall and late spring months.
Important Guidance
Extra water, and make sure you document water breaks in your practice plans! I've added some links to this email that can be very helpful. The calculator allows you to figure out the head index with simple numbers you can get from any weather app on your phone. It will ask for the relative humidity. That is just the percentage that meteorologists talk about. Use the calculator to figure out the heat index. Use the chart to determine what the situation is, and if you should be practicing. There are also some articles to refresh your memory about heat illness/stroke. Illness can be handled with going into a cool environment and increased fluids. If you think an athlete is suffering from heat stroke, you need to seek professional medical help. (CALL 911). There is also a FREE NFHS course that wouldn't be a bad idea to take.
Please make sure you have plenty of water for the kids to drink. Make sure you are doubling your water breaks if not tripling them! We have plenty of water jugs and ice, if you need more, ask and USE THEM!
Don't put the kids in harms way for a practice that could cost you the season. Anything you’re doing in practice right now is going to have a major impact on your season, losing kids for a prolonged period of time due to heat sickness will. BE SMART and know the safety and well being of all of our students are always top priority!!!
