September/October/November (continue all year)
- Keep your grades up! Study hard! Junior grades are important on your college application.
- Keep in mind that colleges look for the following:
- challenging coursework
- strong grade point average (GPA)
- involvement in extracurricular school and community activities
- participation in service projects - Be a volunteer!! (could be important for scholarships and college entrance)
**What are you doing to set yourself apart to earn scholarship money?
- Research careers that appeal to you
-go to Career Cruising and retake the Matchmaker Assessment or research various careers
-Go on a job shadow (forms available in the Guidance Office)
- Attend college fairs to research colleges that interest you
- Take the PSAT in October (optional, but recommended if you have any interest in going to college)
- Begin preparing for the SAT which will be taken in the spring (Use Khan Academy)
January/February
- Meet with college admissions counselors who come to visit school
- Research colleges on-line
- Go on college visits to schools you are interested in (with a parent!!)
- Map out classes to be taken during your Senior year to accomplish your educational and career goals
March/April
- Take SAT at school as a part of the Michigan Merit Exam (MME)
- You can retake the test during your Senior year if you wish to improve your score.
- Consider taking the ACT
- Go on college visits to schools you are interested in (with a parent!!)
- Put together a list of the colleges that you would like to attend
May/June
- Seek out opportunities to participate in service projects and to be a volunteer
- Plan summer visits to the colleges you are interested in and consider applying. Go on these
visits with a parent!
-Begin making a list of scholarships you plan to apply for. Include deadlines and begin applying once they open up.
- Have a great summer!!
