What is a School Counselor?

Parents, the press, administrators and the general public often wonder just what it is that school counselors do on a daily basis. Gone are the days of school counselors sitting in their office simply handing out college applications, making schedule changes for students who want to drop a class or meeting with the troublemakers in the school. Today's school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow (ASCA).  Learn more about the role of the school counselor.

My goal as a school counselor is to partner with parents, community, faculty and staff to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students thus preparing them with the knowledge and skills to be productive members of society.  In order to achieve this, the counseling program will

To participate in any of these services, students may be referred by parents, teachers, administrators, peer, or they may self-refer.   A referral form must be on file in order for me to provide on-going services for students.
