AIG Identification
Long Creek's AIG Universal Screening Informational Session 2024-2025
All students enrolled in a CMS school in second grade are screened for AIG services using the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test). Parents will receive a letter when this testing will take place. The scores from the CogAT are used with a rubric to identify students as AIG (Academically Intellectually Gifted). Students may automatically qualify with their CogAT score, or they may need to complete additional testing or participate in the portfolio process. Once students are identified, they receive a DEP (Differentiated Education Plan) to ensure they are being challenged.
Students in third through fifth grade may be retested or tested (if they were not enrolled in CMS in second grade) if the School-Based AIG Committee decides that testing is necessary.
Students in kindergarten and first grade may be identified if qualifying test scores are available. CMS will test K-1 students who are referred by the School-Based AIG Committee for eligibility to the Horizons program.
Students can certify as gifted in one of five ways. The identification labels and a description of the labels are below:
Students who do not qualify as AIG may still receive TD services from the TD teacher if the School-Based TD Committee feels it is necessary.
For more information about how students qualify for TD services, visit the Advanced Studies and Talent Development website or you can view the slideshow below that was presented to 2nd grade parents that explains the gifted identification process.
