12.  Where do we place the sticker in our car, wherever we want?

1. My student only has a permit but will have their license in a month. Can we still get a spot now or will you reserve one for him/her?

ANSWER: No, sorry we only issue parking stickers to “licensed drivers.”  No, we do not reserve or hold spots, but the good news is that the student parking lot is so large that we do not sell out - there WILL be a spot available when he/she gets their license.  JUST REMEMBER, on sticker issue day they HAVE to have their license (we have to receive a copy of it). If they failed their test and are going to retake, we can't save that spot.

2. We will be out of town!!! Can we come early?

ANSWER: No, we do not issue stickers early, but as stated on the application, you may have another adult drive the car, but we have to have a copy of your license, CURRENT proof of insurance and registration in your name.  The following week is full of meetings for teachers, so we do not issue stickers during that time.

3.  I have early release; so can I come after 3rd Block?

ANSWER:  No, we are teaching other students/classes and cannot stop what we are doing for 20+ students to issue a sticker to one student.  You may complete your payment and online application and pick up your sticker on Monday's and Wednesdays after the first day of school from 2:30PM to 2:45PM.

4.  I bought a new car or my car was totaled after I received a sticker and I need a new one for a new car. What should I do?

ANSWER: Submit your new application reflecting the new car, new proof of insurance and new registration and $10 the cost of a new sticker. Remember, if your old sticker is found on another car, you will lose your driving privileges.

5. For various reasons(work/carpooling, etc), we rotate cars in our family and need multiple stickers. What do we do?

ANSWER:IF CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW, we can issue a second sticker for $10 to cover the cost of the sticker.  Be advised though, if it is discovered that the sticker was purchased for another student, then both will lose parking privileges, face disciplinary actions and allowing students to get a second sticker will no longer be allowed.  This is a great and new opportunity, please do not ruin it for others.  We will issue 2nd stickers after October 1st.

6. My student wrecked their car and will not get a replacement so they are going to have their neighbor drive and use their spot instead, is this okay?

ANSWER: No this is not allowed. We award spots to students as a privilege they have earned and past history has shown that if we allow this, students will essentially circumvent the waitlist and others actually sell their spot similar to subletting an apartment. We definitely discourage this "scalping" of parking spots and it's why we require to see registration and insurance among other reasons. If caught moving stickers to allow someone else to use the spot, the student will lose their privilege and face disciplinary action. The student receiving the sticker will lose "future" privilege's for parking (ie a soph/junior will not receive parking at the beginning of their senior year).

7. My student exceeded six tardies and lost their parking sticker as a result during their senior year; we have no way of getting them to practice or after school events, can they have one more chance?

ANSWER: Unfortunately, no. They signed the policy at the beginning of the school year ensuring that they understood this policy. Once they have completed their "Recovery Time" and notify us, we will double-check and then add them to the senior or junior waitlist. We view parking as a privilege. Students have to remain in good standing academically and follow the rules that support a strong learning environment. Being habitually late is not a trait we condone or reward.  However, they may appeal to an administrator by completing the Appeal Form.  See the links on the parking webpage.

8.  My son/daughter just came back from the school when he/she was supposed to get their sticker but they were told that they owed $40.00 additional dollars in parking tickets, how can this be?

ANSWER: Your son/daughter was fined during the previous year for parking unauthorized at least twice without a sticker or in a location other than their designated parking . We maintain records on unpaid finspotes and match cars from previous years with cars attempting to register for a parking spot. We could ask the police to run the license plates on the offenders if necessary. He/she should pay the fines and hope it doesn't go to an assistant principal for disciplinary reasons.

9.  My son/daughter provided false information on their parking application or registered a friend's car as if it were their own. They were caught and now both they and their friend lost the privilege to park in the future in student parking and they are facing disciplinary measures with the Principal/AP. They didn't know, can't they have a second chance?

ANSWER: No, sorry. This goes against the Student Code of Conduct and the ethics and values that we attempt to instill in our students at Hopewell. We are very serious and parking is limited. It is not worth a student losing their opportunity to drive as a senior.

10. Why can't students park in the bus parking lot or the teacher's lot?

ANSWER: If you have observed the buses picking up students, there is simply no room for cars and we do not want to increase the risk of injury by mixing student/bus traffic. Regarding the teacher's lot, we continue to grow as a school which means our faculty/staff continues to grow. In addition, we need to maintain some parking for maintenance and visitors. The district is currently not able to add additional parking areas to Hopewell or any other school.

11.  My son or daughter drove across the sidewalks and grass area behind the school and lost his/her parking privileges, is this true?

ANSWER:  Yes it is, it was specifically stated in the parking application that doing so would result in a loss of parking privileges.

12.  Where do we place the sticker in our car, wherever we want?

ANSWER:  The sticker goes inside the front windshield in the lower left corner (Driver’s Side) as you are sitting in the car.
