Newsletter and Nightly Unfinished Classwork

Hello Parents!

I hope everyone enjoyed the carnival last week! Our parent club does an amazing job putting it all together!

This is the final stretch for Jog-A-Thon collections. We have already met our classroom goal which is AMAZING! now it's time for each kid to read their individual goals.

Homework club continues week. It is available to all upper grade students on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30. It is a great place for kids to have a structured spot to get their homework done and have a teacher to ask questions. It is in rooms 12/13 with Mrs. Bower and Ms. Hill. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Reading/Language Arts:

This week we will continue to focus on Plot Elements in a story (standard RL 6.3). We will also continue to cite evidence in literature (RI 6.1) using the next couple of chapters in our core lit book we started, "Where the Red Fern Grows."

Our first CR lit log has begun. The lit form will be reviewed and handed out in class. It can also be found in our google classroom page. The students may pick a "your choice" genre. I will be checking with them to make sure they have picked a book that is an appropriate reading level for them. The completed book and lit log is due on Tuesday, Sept 25th.

Our next CR project is a Mystery genre project. Instructions will be explained in class. Instructions can also be found in our Google Classroom. It will be due Tuesday Oct 23rd.

Spelling/Word Analysis:

We will begin with lesson 6 list this week. The lists will be available for pick-up in class and on our google classroom page. Go to the top-left side of this site, click on navigation bars next to my name. We will do an in-class assignment called "word wise" each week to understand the vocabulary and pattern. Students are responsible for studying as much as they need for a test on Thursday.

We will begin chapter 2. It is on fractions, decimals, percents, and how they relate to each other.

Expect a nightly assignment in math and a check-up quiz at the end of the week. We will have a chapter quiz in about 2 weeks. All work must have work shown and steps written in order to receive full credit. It's not only about the answer, it's about the journey too!

The book is available online in your child's Clever account. You can also access it on through this site. Go to the top-left side of this site, click on navigation bars next to my name.
