The beginning of school usually starts with a lot initial assessments so that we know what tools are already in place for success in learning. We well also be doing a few "get to know you" types of activities. For the most part though, we hit the ground running with 4th grade curriculum. Check out Google Classroom for those details.
We will also be learning about new classroom procedures such as how to property behave in a classroom so that learning time is maximized and distractions are minimized. Don't get me wrong. We're going to have a TON of fun too, but it's been my experience that everyone's time in more enjoyable when clear expectations are given ahead of time.
Now, regarding homework, I do assign homework, but I try to keep that at a minimum. I believe family time needs to be honored and respected and I don't want to compete with that. Every student will receive a work folder. No assignments are turned in the day that they're assigned. Instead, ALL assignments go into the work folder, finished or not. They will then be turned in the following morning so make sure everything is completed and is looking good.
