Calculators

It is strongly recommend that students have a scientific calculator for college preparator math classes at Buchanan High School, although they are not required.

I will teach all students how to use calculators during key lessons throughout this school year. Any scientific calculator will do, but if you are looking for one in particular, I recommend the TI-36X Pro or the Casio fx-115 ES. For about $15-$20, it does more than the average computation. It does fractions, radicals, complex numbers, and even rationalizes denominators. It will also be the main model I use to show students how to do problems in the classroom once in person instruction resumes.

I will also teach students how to use the DESMOS online graphing calculator. I recommend that all students download the app on their computers and/or cell phones. Online browser Link: https://www.desmos.com/calculator

If you are in a financial hardship you can borrow a calculator from me. I have a variety of scientific calculators that I can lend out to students for home use. These calculators differ slightly from those that I recommend but they will work. To borrow a calculator for home use, set up a time to meet with me outside of classroom hours with your ID card and sign one out. It is as easy as that.

Donate Used Calculators

If you have any used scientific or graphing calculators that you would like to donate to a good home, I would be happy to take any calculator to be used by students in my classroom. I would take working or non-working calculators (as I am pretty good at fixing broken ones).
