¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español 2!
Course Objectives: The goal of Spanish 2 is to enable students to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills according to grade level. Students will learn to describe themselves, family and friends and people in general. Students will also learn to write using Preterite and imperfect tenses. In addition, students will learn about the Hispanic culture such as, traditional celebrations, holidays, food, music, dances and customs. We will read various selections, complete writing assignments, and practice speaking in a variety of situations in class. We will also listen to the language via audio segments, movie clips, and songs.
GENERAL CLASSROOM POLICIES
· Tardiness - BHS policy will be enforced (refer to parent handbook).
· Electronic devices are Not allowed in Class, except when/as directed by Teacher.
· Students will be expected to keep electronic devices in place designated by Teacher. Violation of this rule will result in disciplinary consequences.
· Cheating & plagiarism will not be tolerated. Plagiarism: It is unacceptable to copy and/or pass off as one’s own ideas or words of another without properly crediting the source. School designated plagiarism checker may be used on any submitted written work.
· Cheating: any unauthorized, intentional action to improve student’s grade or help others do so, violating academic integrity. This includes using hidden notes, looking at other student papers, testing sites, using unauthorized technology (phones/watches), and/or sharing questions and answers.
· Consequences: Inappropriate and/or unacceptable academic work will be addressed on a case-by-case basis; consequences ranging from No Credit on the assignment, to further academic consequences.
· Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Students will be referred to the Student Services and loss of Day and/or 2 weeks Class-Participation Points. [Teacher’s Discretion]
· Pop-Quizzes will be given for the following: Students Not on task, Low to minimum Class Participation, Low turnout turn out on Classwork and/or Homework Assignments, Low scores on Assessments.
· Pop-Quizzes will be given on current and/or past study course material to: encourage consistent learning habits, fostering classroom engagement, and to revise and strengthen Clas’s Learning objectives. [Teacher’s Discretion]
Makeups and Retakes
· Quizzes and Tests Makeups need to be done within 10 School Days, from the day Quiz/Test was given. Once 10 Day grace period is over, Assessments will get a “0”.
· Quiz Retakes, (if given), need to be done within 10 school days from, the day Quiz/Test was given. Once 10 Day grace period is over, Assessments will keep its original Score/Grade. (Teacher’s Criteria).
· There are No Retakes for Unit Tests.
Gradebook Discrepancies
Students will have up to 10 school days* from the day an Assignment, Quiz and/or Test was
given/assigned to:
• Discuss missing assignment/s.
• Request Makeups (if allowed by Teacher)
• Discuss Graded or Not Assignments and/or Scores on the Gradebook, as well as, other related course
matters (e.g., Test, Quizzes and/or Class Assignments*).
• Once grace period is over, all Missing Scores will get a “0” and/or keep the documented score.
Notation:
· Google-Classroom will be used to communicate course assignments, study guides and/or testing schedules. Students will have 2 weeks to discuss any miss understandings and/or communication issues and/or concerns regarding Google-Classroom. Thus, it is highly recommended to meet and discuss with your Teacher if you have any questions and/or need clarification regarding Google-Classroom. Not understanding and/or Not being able to follow up with Google-Classroom Instructions, will Not be an excuse for students to complete given assignments and/or follow-up with the assigned/expected Testing Calendars.
Physical Records (paper) of Assignments, Quizzes and Tests
Students have up to 10 school days from the day that an assignment, Quiz, or Test was assigned, to makeup the missed Assignments, Quizzes and/or Test.
• Thus, keeping up with the Gradebook (Student-Connect) and Due Dates are essential to avoid falling behind in Spanish .
• Assignments will be Graded within 10 school days after being submitted (Due Date) or A.S.A.P.
• All students are equally subject to the above-mentioned policies. (special and/or extraordinary
circumstances will have to be resolved with World Languages Department L.D. and World Languages
D.C.).
Notation:
· Course Matters will Not be Resolved via Email. These must be taken care of in Person during my Office
Hours. [CART students and/or Students dealing with extraordinary/special circumstances will need to
discuss Office Hours availability with the Teacher during the first 2 weeks of Class.
· Parent emails and phone calls will be responded to within 2 business days (48 hours).
· Unless under the direction of staff (for specific instructional or curricular purposes), students may not use electronic devices, including cell phones and/or earbuds, in classrooms. Devices should be turned off and stored according to the teacher’s directions. Devices may not be used in restrooms, locker rooms, or other spaces where students have an expectation of privacy.
Excused Absences
• Students have one class-day for every excused absence to make-up for the missed assignments in
order to receive full Credit.

HOMEWORK AND CLASS-ASSIGNMENTS
Students are to complete assignments, review, and practice class work at home for approx. 30 minutes each night. Homework is due at the beginning of the period and will not be accepted late for full credit. Late work will be accepted for ½ credit and due within 1 week. Also, no credit will be given for incomplete or illegible work (teacher’s discretion).
Assessments
Assessments will be given frequently through tests, quizzes, and class participation activities.
MAKE-UP WORK
Make up work (homework, worksheets, notes, etc.) is your responsibility. For excused absences only, you have one week to make up the work. If you are absent for a quiz or test, you will be required to make it up during teacher’s Office Hours. If you do not show up for the make-up, you will earn a 0 for your test. The number of days the student was absent will be same amount of days allowed for student to turn in work. Students missing a test due to co-curricular activities need to take the test prior to leaving campus.
MISSING WORK:
It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with STUDENT CONNECT. Students have 10 school days to report, check or discuss any missing or not posted scores in the Gradebook.
PARENT CONNECT:
To better assist your student in keeping up with his/her course expectations, check PARENT CONNECT periodically.
Updates will be made every two weeks, or as soon as possible.
CLASS PARTICIPATION
Participation points are earned by:
· Being in Class on Time and having Class Material ready when the 2nd Bell Rings.
· Participating in class discussions (Teacher Guidance).
· Actively participating with assigned partner (Pair-Share).
· Following Classroom Rules and Teacher’s instructions (Focus / on task).
· Complete Class Assignments on Time.
WARM UP ACTIVITIES
Every day when the class begins, we will participate in a warm-up activity. This will include a review of what we have previously covered in class or a writing activity that will involve you writing answers from the prompts provided.
START OF CLASS & DISMISSAL OF CLASS
You must be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings. Warm-up activities will begin immediately after the tardy bell rings. The teacher will dismiss you at the end of the period, not the bell.
EXTRA HELP
If you are having difficulty with assignments or other material you do not understand, please arrange for help or request the list of tutors. Tutor.com is available FREE to ALL 7th-12th grade students in CUSD. Tutor.com offers free online tutoring 24/7 for all subject areas. Students can access Tutor.com through their Clever account.
FOOD
No food or drinks in class. The only exception is water bottles.
Multi-Media
We will incorporate technology to support student learning which may include the following: videos, YouTube, musical artists and cultural selections.
