Classroom Music

ELIOT: Grade 5 and 6 students meet for music half a year, every other day on an A day, B day rotation. Singing, performing on instruments and creating music is a daily part of our routine.

5th grade and 6th grade students learn basic skills on the classroom keyboards and read/perform rhythms on bucket drums. 6th grade students will begin ukulele. Students will learn to read music and perform simple songs. The children will also use the instruments to create and compose.

We begin the semester reviewing Patriotic music and practice playing quarter, eight and half note rhythm patterns on bucket drums, boomwhackers, keyboards or xylophones. We will quickly progress into more complex rhythm patterns to include combinations of sixteenth notes.

JOEL: Kindergarten and Grade 1 students will have music two times a week for thirty minutes. The children will begin to develop their singing voice and learn to match pitch through a variety of songs and singing games. Students will have the opportunity to read and play rhythms using percussion instruments and xylophones.
