POSTED 2/12/26: The Faith C. Webber Foundation will award one $500 scholarship to a KMHS student. Faith Webber was a former Shelby High School cheerleader and Social Worker with the Cleveland County DSS, who gave her life in service to the community that molded her into the woman she was. To honor their daughter's legacy, Audrey and Rev. Charles Webber started a scholarship fund to help students in Cleveland County further their education.

POSTED 2/11/26: Commercial Bank “Life. Made Better.” Scholarship. This scholarship for $2,500 will be awarded to only one student from the schools in Commercial Bank’s footprint. Each year the NC Extension & Community Association, Inc. (ECA) offers educational scholarships to NC youth and adults who are pursuing a college education in North Carolina. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students in obtaining a degree at any North Carolina college, in any field of study, with priority given to Family and Consumer Sciences. (Part-time students must carry no less than six (6) hours per semester and full-time students must carry no less than twelve (12) hours per semester.)

The SECU "People Helping People" Scholarship worth $10,000 (payable at $1,250 per semester) is for seniors in North Carolina who plan to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the UNC system. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and resident of North Carolina. Applicants must also have at least a 2.5 unweighted GPA and have demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity and community involvement. POSTED 1/20/26: The North Carolina Home Builders Educational & Charitable Foundation, Inc. (NCHBECF) will award up to eight $1,000 scholarships to community college or technical school students in each of NCHBA’s eight regions. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are entering a program considered to be a skilled trade in the construction industry (i.e., carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc.).
Eligibility criteria & general information:
Scholarships will be awarded to students who are entering a program considered to be a skilled trade in the construction industry (i.e., carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc.). They do not have to be related to an NCHBA member nor do they have to be nominated by one; however, those recommended or related to an NCHBA member will take preference. One per NCHBA region will be awarded per year based on eight NCHBA regions.
Scholarships will be for one school year. Scholarship winners will be eligible for consideration for renewal.
Scholarships will be considered on the recommendation of a school advisor/teacher and on their future plans in the construction industry as determined by the answers on the scholarship application. First preference will go to students attending a community college or technical school in North Carolina.
The number of scholarships will be determined by the Board of Trustees based on the number of applications. The maximum amount of each scholarship will be $1,000.

POSTED 1/14/26: Each year the State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC) Scholarship Foundation, Inc. offers academic scholarships to SEANC members, in good standing, their spouses and dependents and Retired SEANC members, in good standing, grandchild(ren). The Scholarship Foundation will award annual scholarships for the 2026-2027 school year.
Membership in teachers’ organizations or State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Members are not eligible for a SEANC Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship is funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation through a grant to the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority.

Established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2011, the Forgivable Education Loans for Service provides financial assistance to qualified students enrolled in an approved education program and committed to working in critical employment shortage professions in North Carolina. The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority provides administration for the program. POSTED 1/7/26: The Cecilia Music Club Scholarship is for seniors in Cleveland County. The scholarship is awarded to a talented student in any area of applied music. This scholarship MUST BE USED for private lessons on the college level in the area in which the scholarship is given. The scholarship must be used within 24 months from the time it is awarded.
It is not required that applicants major in Music in college to apply for this scholarship. It can be for any major.

POSTED 1/7/26: The Extension Master Gardener Association of Cleveland County is committed to sustainable gardening, soil health, environmental soundness, and community involvement. We support education and outreach to local growers of food, flowers, shrubs, and trees. In offering this scholarship, we hope to further the education of young people who share our values.

Intergenerational Conversations: Record a short video conversation with a family member, mentor, or community elder about what being AAPI means to them. Share what you have learned and how it has shaped your own sense of identity.
What Home Sounds Like: Capture or describe the sounds that remind you of home such as family conversations, street noises, cooking, music, or any soundscape that carries meaning for you. Explain why these sounds are important and how they connect to your AAPI identity or sense of belonging.
Roots and Routes: Trace the journey of your family or community (this can be across oceans, states, or generations). Explain where your roots began and how those paths have shaped who you are today. POSTED 11/24/25: The Dover Scholarship is a merit based scholarship that is awarded each year to seniors in Cleveland County who want to attend any 4-year college. This year they will give out (2) $20,000, (5) $15,000, and (5) $10,000 scholarships. Of the 12 recipients 4 will be to Gardner-Webb and 8 will be for any other accredited college or university.
There are two categories of competition: 1) those seniors who have been accepted and want to attend Gardner-Webb University and 2) those seniors who want to attend ANY other college in the United States that they have been accepted to (you can only select ONE category).
Applicants are required to write a 500 word or less essay (you can select from 2 prompts) and submit two letters of recommendation (one from school personnel and one from the community). You are allowed to attach extra pages for the essay, but no "resume style" pages detailing your work, community involved, etc will be accepted.
The Dover Foundation will select students competing for the GWU category and students in the other college category from the area high school applicants to interview. Applicants that move forward in the competition will be required to attend an interview in late March or early April.

POSTED 11/17/25: The Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship Program will award 10, $5,000.00 college scholarships to high school seniors to continue their secondary education. Must have a 3.0 GPA. Each year the firm's scholarship committee selects students based on their grades, school and community involvement, SAT or ACT scores (optional), and a presentation that encourages fellow teens to abstain from underage drinking and driving and highlights the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving. High school seniors must provide all the following items in a single submission to qualify for consideration:

The Cleveland County Chamber of Commerce is offering one senior from each Cleveland County High School the opportunity to win $1,000 if their entrepreneurial presentation is selected as a winner. In order to participate you will need to write a one paragraph statement on What is an entrepreneur, create a business plan, and complete an application. The top three business plans at KMHS will be selected to compete in a competition at Gardner-Webb University. You will need to be prepared to present a three minute "Shark Tank" style pitch. This will take place on April 14th.

POSTED 10/24/25: The Next NC Scholarship is a financial aid program that helps most North Carolinians from households making $80,000 or less pursue higher education. Students attending a community college will receive at least $3,000 per year. Those attending a public university in North Carolina will get a minimum of $5,000 per year. The best part? It’s money that doesn’t have to be repaid.
In order to qualify for this scholarship you must fill out the FAFSA. The steps to complete this process are below. If you need any help please let me know.

Alford Family Gold Scholarship--$1000 awarded to senior male and female golfers who will continue to play at the NCAA Division II or III level. Application is available at https://nchsaafoundation.org/scholarships/. Deadline to apply is March 25.
Wilburn Clary Medal Award--$3000 awarded to graduating senior student-athlete participating on a sanctioned varsity sport team during his/her senior year at a NCHSAA member school. Athlete must have participated in at least two sanctioned varsity sports during his/her high school career and have an unweighted 3.2 GPA.
