What is the National Honor Society?

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

Membership is awarded by a vote of a faculty council, representing the faculty as a whole. Membership is "an honor bestowed upon a select group of students by the faculty council…” in accordance with the National Honor Society Constitution, and is not a right accorded the academically eligible student.

Who is Eligible?

Juniors and Seniors who are enrolled as full-time students at Clarke County High School for a minimum of one semester are eligible for consideration as members. In order to be academically eligible, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 or higher. As Clarke County High School offers a plethora of weighted courses, a 4.0 would be equivalent to the 3.0 minimum requirement according to the National Honor Society handbook.
