Crayola colored pencils for grades k-8 in the French classroom
We are back to school after enjoying les grandes vacances de l´été and are ready to begin l´année scolaire 2025-2026.
We live in a large world. To be global citizens we benefit from exposure to different cultures and languages. At Christ the King we study French as our second language and explore the numerous regions where French is spoken. Kindergarten through third-grade students enjoy learning French vocabulary, expressions, songs, and games. Fourth-grade students learn high-frequency words and link them to form simple sentences. Fifth-grade students learn phonetic sounds and blends and use these to write words and sentences. Middle school students participate in a rigorous program, comparable to high school level one.

Madame Qui?
A bit about me...My name is Madame Côté-Wurzler. 2025-26 will be my fourteenth year teaching French at Christ the King School. Before that, I taught French and religion at St. Joseph School in Burlington.
I grew up in a household where French was our first language. We spoke French, our children's books were in French, our newspaper was in French. My mother taught us to sing and together with my siblings we performed. Our fondest memories of the times we sang together include being invited to perform French music at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.
I am married and my husband and I will be celebrating our 42th anniversary in October. We have five sons and one daughter. We are also blessed with seven grandchildren.
Children are my passion and my French heritage is a great love of mine. Combining them, I am honored to have the best vocation in the world, teaching.
My Philosophy... I believe that education is a partnership between, the student, the parents, and me. To ensure the child's success a team approach is best. The student should enter the class prepared and ready to participate and excited to put their best foot forward. Parents should feel free to contact me as needs arise. I will instruct your child, support each student, and nurture them. As a mother of six and a seasoned teacher, I view each child as an individual with strengths and challenges specific to him/her. I am an enthusiastic teacher who believes that learning should be fun.

School year2025-26
Dear Students and Parents,
I hope that you are rested and eager to start the 2025-26 academic year at Christ the King School. I am thrilled to be back and teaching you French. I’ve missed you!
To ensure success, students are required to do homework and invest time studying at home. Assignments are always pertinent and never given as busy work, so completing them is imperative. Students will receive calendars that will always be kept in their French binder. Students will use this calendar to record time studied; this time is in addition to homework. All middle-school students will be required to study for twenty minutes three times a week. As parents, please initial the date of each time your child studied. Calendars will be checked for parental signatures, and grades will be recorded as homework. Calendars will not be accepted late.
Homework must have a proper title, including first and last name, student number, the date in French, and the assignment. It must be passed in at the beginning of class or be marked as late. Students must fill in a sheet stating why they did not complete the assignment to be allowed to pass it in late. Late work will be accepted up to the fifth day, not the fifth class. Students must turn in their late work to me regardless if we have a class that day or not.
Tests will always be announced, quizzes may or may not be. Students in seventh and eighth grades will take a midterm exam and a comprehensive final exam.
All students are required to have a three-ring binder with four dividers and loose-leaf paper. Returning students will continue to add to their previously established binders but should make sure that they have clean, loose-leaf paper and still have their four dividers. Their calendar will be inserted in the front, followed by sections for homework, notes, tests/quizzes, and handouts. Students are required to keep everything, including corrected work and assessments, in their binders. Everything must be titled and dated. Toward the end of each trimester, binders will be evaluated, and grades will be recorded.
Participation is mandatory when learning a foreign language. When they arrive at class, students are prepared and eager. Students volunteer to answer questions, read aloud, write on the board, et cetera. Students ask questions for information or clarification. They speak French as much as possible. Clearly, effort here is more important than pronunciation. I make every effort to ensure students are comfortable communicating in each class. Participation contributes to trimester grades.
Please review this letter with your child, and each of you sign it and then return it to me. It will remain as the first item in the three-ring binder. There, it can be referred to as needed.
Thank you for reviewing this letter regarding the expectations in French class.
I look forward to a year of French fun with each of you!
Chaleureusement,
Madame Côté-Wurzler
