Professor's Bio

Christopher Schiavone, PhD, has been an Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at Bunker Hill Community College since 2009, but his full-time work is at City Square Associates, a marketing research and strategic consulting practice dedicated to the transformation of data into meaning and meaning into action. 

Established in 1997, City Square has worked extensively in media and entertainment, higher education and the non-profit sector, the public sector, financial services, and health science. City Square has developed an especially deep portfolio of work in public media, having carried out research for CPB and PBS, national organizations like SRG, Greater Public, and NFCB, and close to 100 local public radio and public television stations across the country. Its most recent RUN [Researching Unmet Needs], FUND [Finding and Understanding New Donors], and Rural America studies have been widely shared and discussed, anchoring important conversations among public media practitioners and, in many cases, shaping organizational strategies.  

Grounded in the social sciences and humanities, and guided by a desire to build an better world—at any scale—the team Chris leads is proud to have worked with many local organizations and institutions including the Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School, the Courageous Parents Network, the Fessenden School, Jewish Community Center of Greater Boston, GBH-Boston, and Ocean State Media.

Chris earned his PhD in Philosophy at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he wrote his doctoral dissertation on The Contemplative Dimension of Rationality in the Thought of Karl Rahner. He also holds the MA in Pastoral Theology and MDiv from Saint John's Seminary in Brighton, where he also earned his AB  in Philosophy and taught for several years. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at Stonehill College in Easton, MA. His philosophical interests include the philosophy of religion, the history of philosophy, epistemology, and ethics.

He lives in Charlestown and has been active in the local community. He is a past member and co-chair of the GBH (Channel 2) Community Advisory Board. He was a member and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project (GMDVP) and he recently completed his term as President of the Board of Directors of Gardens for Charlestown, one of Boston's oldest community gardens, dedicated to the preservation of open space in the urban neighborhood around Sullivan Square. 

He is an avid gardener, a pretty decent chef, and something of a political junkie. Chris is also a co-founder and of  BostonChefs.com, a web-based marketing and promotion service for the area culinary community. With over 100,000 users a month, the site and its social and e-marketing platforms comprise the leading source of information on fine dining in the Boston area.
