Short Biography

Dr. Sherwani was born in 1958 in Kirkuk- Iraq, and awarded his B.Sc. in Geology (1980), M.Sc. in Geology (1983), and PhD in Petroleum Geology in 1998, all from Baghdad University- Iraq.

Dr. Sherwani has attended many seminars, conferences, and training courses, inside Iraq and abroad in different subjects including: Petroleum Exploration, Mining Geology, Leadership & Management, Educational Programs, Professional Development Programs, and Training of Trainers Programs.

His major research interests are: Stratigraphy and Sedimentology, Sequence Stratigraphy, and Petroleum Geology, and published over 40 scientific papers and reports, and supervised/co-supervised 10 master and doctoral theses.

He was assigned to various administrative and academic posts during over 30 years of public service, and worked in several Iraqi academic institutions, such as Baghdad and Salahaddin Universities. Currently, he works as assistant professor in Cihan University- Erbil, Iraq.

Dr. Sherwani is a member of : The Natural History Museum Committee, Iraqi and Kurdistan Geologists Syndicates, Editorial Board of “Iraqi Bulletin of Geology & Mining”- Baghdad, and Iraq Energy Institute.

Additionally, he worked as part-time consultant at several institutions: Geologic Adviser to Ministry of Industry- KRG, Consultant Geologist at UN-FAO, and Petroleum Consultant at Heritage Oil Company.
