BRETT H. BOWDEN teaches Social Studies. He has a B.A. cum laude in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; a J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law/Yeshiva University; an M.AT. in Secondary Social Studies from Manhattanville College; & an Ed. M in School Building and School District Leadership from Bank Street College. A member of the New York State bar, Mr. Bowden previously taught in Mount Vernon, New York .
Additionally, Mr. Bowden is the Founder/Coach of the C.H.H.S. Croton Academic Challenge Team (C.A.C.T.I.), Founder/Adviser to P.A.C.T. (the P.V.C. Academic Challenge Team), and was the National Academic Championship "Coach of the Year" in 2011. [For ten years he was Head Coach of both the Boys and Girls (5x League Champion) Varsity Cross Country teams at Croton-Harmon High School]
Outside the classroom, Mr. Bowden is a member of the Educators Program Committee at the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center of Purchase, N.Y. - and the recipient of the Susan J. Goldberg Memorial Award (2008).
Nominated for the Future School Leaders Academy co-sponsored by Bank Street College and Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, he earned his School Building Leadership (SBL) and School District Leadership (SDL) certification in 2011.
In July 2019, Mr. Bowden attended the Belfer National Conference for Educators at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. where he was trained in the Museum's Guidelines and pedagogical approach to teaching about the Holocaust.
During the Summer of 2022, Mr. Bowden continued his lifetime learning and became a Lifeguard [American Red Cross] as well as a Certified Life Coach [Refuah Institute, American Association of Professional Coaches].
