The Christ the King School Kapa Haka group meets at 2:20 every Monday. The students learn a variety of waiata, waiata-a-ringa and haka. Through the children immersing themselves in te reo Maori, they are appreciating the bi-culturalism of New Zealand and the performing arts. The Kapa Haka group is open to all students from Year 4 through to Year 8.
Kapa haka is the term for Māori performing arts and literally means to form a line (kapa) and dance (haka). Kapa haka is an avenue for Maori people to express and showcase their heritage and cultural identity through song and dance.
