Games

A great way to practice literacy skills is games! Below you will find a list of games and downloadable game boards to keep your kids learning at home. Simply print the game board, select a set of letter or word cards, and start playing.

(Please note that some games require one or two six-sided dice.)

Race to the Castle

Designed to help students learn their sight words, this "Candyland" style game has children draw a sightword card, read it, and then advance the same number of spaces as there are letters in the word.

Roll, Say, Keep

In this game, children roll a die, say the name of the letter or sight word located on the corresponding spot, and keep the card if they can read it correctly.

Go Fish!

This classic game requires players to read their own cards and ask someone else for a specific card by name. Once a match is found, players lay them on the table. This game is great for getting reluctant readers to read sight words both silently and aloud. Find the directions below and the word lists in the Sight Words section of the webpage.
