At our school we have Spanish (1st-5th grade), three times a week for 30 minutes. Understanding is achieved with the help of demonstrations, pictures, actions, gestures and objects. The class is mostly done in Spanish, so that children can start getting comfortable with understanding another language. Learning is achieved through games, songs, projects and role play. For a more detailed description of our program, please watch this presentation.

I am from Madrid, Spain. I have a master's degree in Modern Languages from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. I taught English as a Foreign Language in Spain for 6 years before coming to the United States to teach in North Carolina Public Schools in 1996 through an exchange program. After teaching in Wilson County for 3 years, I moved to Carrboro. I taught at Scroggs Elementary for nine years, and I started teaching Spanish at Morris Grove Elementary in 2008.
Our other Spanish teacher, Sr. Carlos, is from Guatemala and Chile. He teaches some second, third and fifth grades.
